The Medallion System
Three Tiers, One Seamless Experience
Electric Planet uses three types of medallions — an eye-catching Entry Medallion at every trailhead, affordable Trail Medallions deployed by the dozen along paths, and a premium Collector's Bronze Medallion awarded to partners who scale to 100+ trail installations. Each QR code links directly to rich YouTube video content. No app needed — just scan and watch.
Entry Medallion
The showpiece. A large, decorative 4–5 inch cast aluminum medallion installed at trailhead kiosks, park entrance signs, nature center lobbies, and campground welcome areas.

- River scenes, forest motifs, and mountain landscapes unique to each site
- QR code linking to the Electric Planet YouTube welcome video for the site
- Electric Planet logo, site name, and medallion number engraved on rim
- One per site — the "welcome" piece that introduces the experience
Trail Medallion
The workhorse. A compact 1½" cast aluminum disc designed for mass deployment along trails, riverbanks, geocaching waypoints, and nature paths.
- 1½" diameter, lightweight cast aluminum — built for volume
- Laser-etched QR code linking to a unique YouTube narrative experience
- Clean design with Electric Planet logo — weather-resistant, UV-stable

Collector's Bronze Medallion
The crown jewel of the Electric Planet system.
A 3-inch cast bronze disc — heavy, detailed, and built to last a lifetime. Featuring a unique embossed nature illustration, the Electric Planet logo, and a laser-etched QR code, this medallion is permanently mounted at a site's most iconic location — a signature viewpoint, a beloved old-growth tree, a historic bridge.
- 3" diameter, cast bronze — heavy, premium, built to last a lifetime
- Unique embossed nature illustration custom to each site's most iconic feature
- Laser-etched QR code linking to an exclusive YouTube narrative
- Awarded FREE with any order of 100+ trail medallions
- Mounted at the site's signature location — the spot visitors photograph and come back to find
"This is the medallion visitors photograph. The one they come back to find. A permanent mark of a site's commitment to science, story, and place."
Trail Series
Sequenced trail medallions along a hiking path (10–50 per trail), each revealing a chapter of a connected story.
Riverbank Series
Medallions installed along waterways, telling a river's story from headwaters to estuary.
Discovery Points
Standalone medallions at nature centers, campground entrances, and visitor kiosks.
Geocache Integration
Trail medallions register as geocache waypoints, blending treasure-hunting adventure with science storytelling for the global geocaching community.

Narrative Modes
Three Ways to Experience Every Story
Every medallion unlocks three distinct YouTube narrative videos — so every visit feels new.
Field Notes Mode
Straight science, beautifully told. Field Notes mode delivers real ecological data, species information, and environmental science through clear, engaging YouTube videos written for curious minds of all ages.
Example — Medallion #4, Piscataquog River
"The rocks beneath your feet are 400 million years old — older than dinosaurs, older than trees. They formed when this spot was at the bottom of an ancient sea."
Character Quest Mode
Follow a character through the landscape. A fictional guide — an animal, an explorer, or even the river itself — narrates the science through story. Think Magic School Bus meets nature documentary.
Example — Same Medallion
"I'm Granite — yes, the rock. I've been here for 400 million years, and let me tell you, I've seen some things. When I was young, I was mud at the bottom of a warm, shallow sea."
Futures Mode
What could this place look like in 50 years? Futures Mode invites explorers to imagine science-based scenarios — from climate adaptation to ecological restoration — turning real data into speculative storytelling.
Example — Same Medallion
"It's 2076. The river is wider now. Climate scientists predicted this — more intense rain events pushing more water through the channel. But look at the banks: community volunteers planted deep-rooted native willows here in 2030."
Modes are selected by the visitor via the YouTube playlist menu after scanning. Parks and educators can also set a default mode link for field trips and guided programs.
Flagship Module
Electric River
A complete river ecology story told across 10 trail medallions + 1 entry medallion
Electric River is Electric Planet's first full-length narrative module — a 10-medallion experience designed for riverbanks, greenways, and waterway trails. A decorative Entry Medallion at the trailhead welcomes visitors and introduces the journey. From headwaters to estuary, each trail medallion reveals a new chapter through YouTube videos blending hydrology, ecology, geology, and climate science.

For Partners
For Parks, Camps & Nature Centers
Beautiful trail infrastructure at near cost — because our business model runs on YouTube
Why Are Medallions So Affordable?
Electric Planet is a YouTube-first company. Our revenue comes from the video content visitors watch after scanning — ad revenue, channel memberships, sponsorships, and branded partnerships. Medallions are our distribution system, not our product. That means your park gets permanent, beautiful trail infrastructure at manufacturing cost, and we get an audience.
No Technology Burden
Visitors use their own phones to scan and watch YouTube. No Wi-Fi, kiosks, or app installs needed.
Permanent Infrastructure
Cast aluminum medallions are built to last decades, not seasons.
Refreshable Content
YouTube videos can be updated seasonally without replacing physical medallions.
Geocaching Ready
Trail medallions can register as geocache waypoints, attracting the global geocaching community to your site.
Engagement Data
YouTube analytics show which stories visitors watch most, how long they engage, and where they come from.
Grant-Compatible
Installations align with education and conservation grant criteria.
The Electric Planet Pilot Program
We partner with 2–3 sites per season to launch, test, and refine new Electric Planet trail experiences. Pilot partners receive — at no cost:
FREE
Electric Planet's revenue comes from YouTube content, not medallion sales. Pilot sites help us build the content library that drives our mission — your trails become the stage, and we handle the rest.
Scale to 100 trail medallions and earn a Collector's Bronze Medallion — a permanent bronze landmark for your site's signature location.
"We've been looking for a way to make our trails more educational without adding screens or infrastructure. Electric Planet gave us beautiful medallions at cost, and the YouTube content does the heavy lifting."

For Everyone
For Families & Explorers of Every Age
Adventure is just a scan away
You're on a hike — maybe with your family, maybe solo. You spot a small aluminum medallion on a trail post. You scan it with your phone. A YouTube video starts playing, and suddenly the rock under your feet has a story. The river beside you has a voice. The forest around you becomes a living science experience — no lecture, no classroom, just wonder.
Free to Use
Scanning medallions is always free. Watch on YouTube with no accounts, no subscriptions, and no paywalls.
Three Videos Per Stop
Choose Field Notes for straight science, Character Quest for narrative adventure, or Futures for imagination and speculation — all on YouTube.
Geocaching Adventures
Many trail medallions are registered as geocache waypoints. Combine treasure-hunting excitement with science storytelling on your next geocaching adventure.
Collect & Explore
Scan every medallion on a trail to watch the full story arc on YouTube. It's like a nature scavenger hunt powered by real science — for explorers of any age.
Find the Rare Bronze Medallion
Some trails feature a rare Collector's Bronze Medallion — a stunning 3-inch cast bronze disc mounted at the site's most iconic location. It's the one everyone wants to find. Keep your eyes open for the bronze glint — and scan it for an exclusive YouTube story you won't find anywhere else.
Visit the same medallion three times — watch each of the three YouTube videos. Discuss with your group: Which version did you like best? What did you learn from each? How does the same science feel different when told as data, as a character's story, or as a future scenario?
Electric Planet experiences are currently available at pilot sites in New Hampshire. More locations coming in 2027. Sign up for our newsletter to get notified when a trail opens near you, or subscribe to our YouTube channel.
About Us
About Electric Planet
An Environmental Literacy Company
Our Story
Electric Planet was founded on a simple observation: people are more curious outside. But too often, outdoor education feels like a lecture transplanted to a trail. We wanted something different — experiences where the place itself becomes the teacher, where real science is delivered through story, and where every visit reveals something new.
Our three-tier medallion system makes this possible. Decorative Entry Medallions welcome visitors at trailheads, affordable Trail Medallions are deployed by the dozen along paths, riverbanks, and geocaching waypoints, and the prestigious Collector's Bronze Medallion rewards partners who commit to large-scale installations. Every QR scan links to rich YouTube video content — place-based science storytelling that blends ecology, geology, hydrology, and climate science with narrative craft.
Our business model is simple: medallions are distributed at near-cost because our revenue comes from YouTube — ad revenue, channel memberships, sponsorships, and branded content partnerships. The more medallions in the wild, the more explorers discover our content. Parks get beautiful infrastructure for almost nothing, and we build an audience of millions of curious minds.
We advance environmental literacy by blending real science with imaginative, place-based storytelling — delivered through YouTube content linked to physical medallions on the trails you love.
A world where people of every age see the natural world as a living story — where science sparks imagination, and imagination inspires stewardship.
